For the second year running, Codam College asked PreparationTech to recruit and select six lucky high school students to receive a paid summer scholarship. These young women and racial and ethnic minority students from low income backgrounds will complete Codam's 'Intro to Coding' course (piscine) over the course of a month this summer.
CODAM trains software engineers (programmers) at its campus in Amsterdam. Its curriculum is based on mastering a series of programming challenges in peer-to-peer, online learning environments based on the Ecole 42 Paris model.
Based on their applications, these six scholarship recipients plan to use their Codam experience to:
- shift from learning coding via YouTube videos to learning with a professional curriculum
- prepare for a study in econometrics because high school did not provide any coding classes
- figure out if computer science and software engineering is something to pursue after high school
- improve programming skills to prepare for a career in robotics and automation
- gain experience and develop confidence to work in the tech industry as a woman
A big thanks to the team at Codam for making this life-changing opportunity available to these students.
